About Payment
Payment is my first novel. I'm late to novel writing, but I’ve been writing plays for 25 years. The idea for Payment came to me while I was working for the RSPB. I started thinking: what would a determined and dedicated person do to fight animal abuse and cruelty? How far would he be willing to go? What inner turmoil would he face? And perhaps most importantly—how would he get away with it?

I mulled it over for several months and thought, “Maybe there’s a novel here.” But how do you write a novel? You just sit at the keyboard and get started. Three months later, I’d written Payment.

Was it easy? Some of it was. Certain characters almost wrote themselves. Others were less cooperative—especially towards the end! When you’ve invested your time reading a book, the least you deserve is a good ending. After much deliberation, I think I came up with a great one.

I want to thank my friends for their support through each chapter—their thoughtful feedback and careful editing made all the difference.

Payment 2 is underway. More soon.

In the press

Praise for 'Payment'

We pride ourselves on being a nation of animal lovers but are we? In this debut novel, which is a cross between "The Day of the Jackal" and "Watership Down",  gruelling descriptions of "normal" processes make for a sometimes harrowing read but it certainly makes you think. The action sequences are truly thrilling and it has great

page-turnability.
